Choir Competiton

On Saturday the 21st of November, Mrs Turner took the Choir to sing at the bandstand in town. This was because we had been selected as one of the top three schools in the Bright FM search for a Christmas Choir 2015.

The song that we sang was Santa Claus in Coming to Town. Once we finished, we waited nervously for the final announcement of who was the winner. The other two schools were Westdene and Oakmeeds. Then the lady announced that we had won!

We all went a bit crazy. However our success would not have been able to happen without one person,  Mrs Turner had got people to vote and got us all to sing well on the recording. She got people to come on the 21st and without her we might not have won. She has shown a huge commitment to our school.

For our prize we won £500 for the school and a trip to the Bright FM studios to record our song that will be played on Christmas Day. So, I would like to say a very big thank you to Mrs Turner for all her hard work.

By Eleanor Cole (Year6)

Bright FM came to Birchwood Grove School to record a copy of their winning song, in the Bright ‘Search for a Christmas Choir’. The children were all very excited about having to record the song, which will now be played, on the radio, on Christmas Day. They had a couple of run throughs, to check the sound levels, then they went for a ‘take’. Bright FM were very pleased with how quickly the choir settled into the recording, which was ‘in the can’ in the first recording. The children are eagerly awaiting the scheduling, from Bright FM, as to when their song will be played on Christmas Day.Another part of their prize, was a £500 cheque from ‘The Town Centre Partnership’ in Burgess Hill. Their teacher, Mrs Rosemary Turner said the money had been put into the music fund and they were thinking about what to spend it on, so it was something meaningful and worthwhile. The choir, over the past week, have also been singing to three different places with old people, to bring a little Christmas cheer to everyone. They have also been lucky enough to have their song chosen to be played on BBC Sussex on the 23rd December.
